Saying Goodbye (But Not Forever)

Hey guys, its been a while. I guess you're probably wondering where I've been and what's going on. Well, that's what this post is about. Before I go any further, I do want to address the timing of this post. Yes, I am aware that it us coming off the disappointing performance of Idlewild Ranch. I assure you, however, that this is a decision that I have wrestled with for months.

When I first came into Last Resort Films, I was a high school senior with big dreams and aspirations. I had settled on a career in Creative Writing by this point, as I had always loved making stories and crafting worlds with characters. Sure, a lot of what I wrote wasn't great, but I had fun doing it, and that was what mattered most.

Five years have passed since then, we're just now wrapping up Season 27. I've been around for eighteen seasons and during that time, I've made and lost friends, was a founding member of a Discord server, watched it go up in flames only to form a new one with those who wanted to keep it strong, went on a personal journey that made me realize my own shortcomings and changed for myself, became invested in wrestling RPGs, began work on several high-profile projects, and most importantly, am currently now two classes away from graduating college with a degree in Creative Writing. Throughout all of it, I haven't lost that creative spark.

With that said, time also has a habit of changing goals and priorities, and sadly, as time has passed, I have found myself having less time for Last Resort Films, especially recently. I can't remember the last time I really sat down and wrote something the studio. It's not for a lack of trying either, I've thought of ideas but they've either fallen through or stalled out.

I think, then, you know where this is going.

I've come to realize that I simply don't have time to be as active here as I once did. And I'm okay with it. Deep down I knew that it wouldn't last and that's fine. All things considered, I've done pretty well. I've written some great movies, I've met some wonderful people, I've grown as a writer, and most importantly, as a person. I've made memories here that will last a lifetime.

And so, it is with a heavy heart yet a clear conscience that I am stepping away from an active role in Last Resort Films.

I know this will come as a disappointment or a shock, especially given I had recently stated I was more amped up than ever to write, but it was not to be. Unfortunately, there's not much I can do or say to change it.

That does not mean that I am retiring or leaving for good, none of the sort. I'll still be around on a part-time basis. I'll read the movies, I'll deliver votes when award season comes, and every now and then, I'll pop by with an idea that truly has me excited. But that will be the extent of my work here in Last Resort Films.

With all that said, I do want to at least go out on one last high, feel that rush I felt all those years ago when I started. So here's the plan. There are three films that I'll be working on starting today. These films will be my final contributions to Last Resort Films as an full-time member of the community.

One film has already been confirmed, that being the sequel to Tara's Web. It only seems fitting to give this the respect it deserves. As for the other two, you'll see and know when the time comes.

One final note, you may have noticed that in the Writing Assignment Package thread that there is a new movie in the group, Watergate. I had originally planned to write this film as the scandal and Richard Nixon in general had been a topic of great interest. As time passed, however, I realized I was not the right person to write this film. After talking to Dolan, I expressed interest in making it a part of the packages and he graciously accepted, and I cannot thank him enough for it. To anyone reading this, I hope you'll consider taking on Watergate. You have ny full blessing and whatever you choose to do, I hope you do it proud.

Until then, I've got some movies to write.

Catch you on the other side.

- Jacob
