Addendum: Khumba the Flying Zebra

Well, hot damn.

I expected this movie to succeed in the box office, it’s got animals and characters kids will love after all. I was not expecting Khumba to be not just my highest grossing film, but the highest grossing of the season so far. Given my struggles in the box office, to hold the top spot right now is pretty awesome.

It also gives me hope for the next few movies on my docket. Hope that they too can become successes in the box office. I’ll tell you more about my next movie ina moment, but first. I want to talk about the biggest issue people had regarding the movie.

Convoluted Backstory:

Remember when I said it was important for a children’s film to have a simple plot? Well, it seems I didn’t practice what I preached. While the film was decently reviewed by critics, the biggest issue was that when it came to this movie, it tried way too hard to explain it’s genetic elements.

Yeah, they’re right on that. In retrospect, I spent too much time focusing on how Khumba could be a related to pegasi and how this led to his genetic advantage. It could have easily been cut down to “Oh, you’re related to a Pegasus, you can fly now!” and still gotten the point across. Even in the shortest film I’ve ever made though, I love me some descriptions.

That reminds me, I’ve got a movie to shorten after writing this.

Coming Soon to Theaters:

Of course, Khumba is now in the past. It’s time to switch gears and focus on what lies ahead. You’ll be hearing from me again in three rounds for my next film. It’s a film I’m very excited to have released as I believe it has the potential to be one of my best works, that movie is E.P.

I’ll go into more detail as to what the film is about in its own piece later, but E.P. is a film I’m very excited about. Let me tell you a bit about the cast. We have Sofia Coppola again leading the way, directing a film that stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Seth Rogen, Amanda Seyfried and Dustin Hoffman among other names. That alone is an impressive list and I’m confident you’ll see some great work with the entire cast.

What I will say is that I have long since wanted to work with Leonardo DiCaprio again after the success that was Golden Girl, in large part because I want to try and preserve his streak in LRF. Yes, I broke his winning streak, but in every film he’s been in, Leonardo has been nominated for at least one award. This film should hopefully continue the trend.

But we will cross that bridge when we get there. Until next time, this is Jacob Jones, signing out!
